When I have a caller who asks for tease and denial, I need information from that caller. The three part question I ask callers at the start of the call: do they want (1) a guaranteed release at the end of the call; (2) a guaranteed denial at the end of the call, or (3) leave it up to me what happens.

Since option 3 gives me the most discretion, how do I decide whether I will permit or deny that release? Lots of factors enter into my decision. How frequently have I spoken with the caller? Is he someone with whom I work regularly, or a first time caller? Has he set a very tight time cutoff for the call? Or is the call time unlimited, or at least long enough to provide a nice long tease time (typically 45-60 minutes or over for me)?

If I have a regular caller on a training schedule, that schedule will dictate whether he is permitted to have a release and, in fact, I won’t even ask him the three part question. We’ve already long since passed that area of information and are into regular training.

With a caller I’m talking with for the first time, the decision is much more subjective and difficult.
